Drafting a contract and signing it used to be two different people. The author could write the document, then had to send it out before anyone, including themselves, could sign.
A document from the contract creator can now be signed by the person who wrote it. You do not have to send it to someone else before the first signature.
That covers the common case where you are a party to your own draft. You can sign first, then send the same document on for the other signatures. The contract does not have to leave your hands before the first name is on it.
