Frequently asked questions

What is a signature generator?

It is a browser tool that turns your handwriting or your typed name into a signature image. Draw with a mouse, trackpad, stylus, or finger, or type your name in a handwriting style, then download the result as an image you can reuse.

Is the signature generator free?

Yes. The tool is free, works entirely in your browser, and needs no download, sign-up, or Formable account.

Is my signature uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. Drawing, styling, and exporting all happen on your device, and the image is never sent to Formable servers. Nothing is saved unless you download it yourself.

Which file formats can I download?

PNG and JPEG. PNG keeps a transparent background, which is what you want when placing a signature over a document or a colored slide. JPEG is flattened onto white and produces a smaller file for email attachments.

Can I use the image in a PDF or Word document?

Yes. Insert the downloaded PNG like any other image, then scale it onto the signature line. Most PDF readers, Word, Google Docs, Pages, and slide tools accept it.

Can I change the handwriting style or ink color?

Yes. Six handwriting styles are available when you type your name, and black, blue, or red ink applies to both drawn and typed signatures.

Is a signature image legally binding on its own?

An image is only the visual mark. In the United States, the E-SIGN Act and UETA generally provide that an agreement is not denied legal effect solely because it is electronic, but a defensible signature also needs signer identity, timestamps, and a record of what was signed. For agreements that matter, send the document through Formable e-signing so each signature carries a full audit trail.

Where do I find a document to sign?

Browse Formable's free contract templates for NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, and DPAs, place signature and date fields, then send a secure signing link. Start in the template library.

Ready to sign something real?

A signature image is a starting point. Send the document through Formable to collect signatures with recipient tracking, timestamps, and an audit trail on every agreement.
